Amanda is a stay at home mother. She and her husband John have lost babies through miscarriage and more recently, stillbirth. They live with their family on a 10 acre farm just outside of Canberra, the National Capital of Australia.
The story of Grace’s birth is captivating! Full of love, sorrow,
and hope. It’s a common misconception that having a big
family lessens the hurt of losing a baby. In fact, we’ve had
several moms avoid coming to a MEND support group simply
because they feel the number of kids they have at home would
make fellow grieving moms uncomfortable. Amanda shows
that although you may have a houseful of living children, they
do not, nor will they ever, replace the one you lost. Rebekah Mitchell founder of M.E.N.D. (Mommies Enduring

The loving providence of God to his people in difficult and
tragic situations is never vague and indefinite. In the valley of
the shadow of death, that love is always practical and concrete.
In this story of loss and tragedy, the care of God, and the truths
and comfort that God brings out of sorrow, come through
very clearly. Those who wrestle with sorrow and mystery in
their lives, and those who try to help them, will find great
encouragement here.

Amanda Axelby’s book touches the very heart of a grieving mother as she honestly and powerfully describes her own experience of losing a child. While Mrs. Axelby openly talks about the complex range of emotions involved in the grieving process, she also points women to the only source of true healing—Jesus Christ. This sensitively written book is full of resources and encouragement for grieving women everywhere. I highly recommend it both for those who have lost a child and for those who are trying to help a grieving friend.
